Our day looks like this:
We start around 8:30 or 9:00. We sit on the couch and read Jesus Calling for Kids, Step into the Bible by Ruth Graham, and Jesus Storybook Bible (we have the Bible not the kindle version but I couldn't find a link to the hardback book- I love this Bible and so do my kids.) Then we pray about our day.
Then I read a book. Sometimes its a book that has to do with what we are learning about. Other times it might be a chapter book. At first they did not do well with this. Then I got Think Putty and it kept their hands busy and they could sit still and listen. Afterwards, Riley reads a book to us.
Then we go sit at the table and do some activities. I try to keep their table work in small boxes. That way things are organized and I'm not searching in my homeschool closet- trying to find the books I need for the day. It also helps me know when we have completed all the work in the box that we are done for the day.
They start off writing in their journals. They can draw anything they want. Ethan draws his picture and then I write what he tells me.
Riley draws a picture and then he has to write a sentence. Then they do their calendars. Ethan does one like this.
Riley does one like this.
Then Riley jumps right into all his work- spelling, handwriting, math, science, language arts, and art. I am doing 1st grade curriculum with Riley but he is technically in Kindergarten. I worked with him a lot last year so most of the Kindergarten curriculum was too simple for him.
I try to do about 4 hours with Riley and its a good day if Ethan last 2 hours. I have tried to get Ethan to work in workbooks but he doesn't like them. Some kids like them and he is one that does not. Sometimes I have him do some busy bags that I've made. Its hard to work with him one on one because I'm working so hard with Riley. Ethan does like do to some printables that I've found at some of these sites for free.

(Sometimes I laminate these and use them over and over)
I also found that its good to have breaks. So we work for about an hour and a half and then I set a timer for about 20 minutes so they can go play.
I just recently started teaching Ethan to read. I highly recommend the book How To Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lesson. I used the book with Riley when he was 5 years old. It was easy to use and Riley enjoyed to book. Riley is an excellent reader and its all because of this book. Ethan and I have been working on this book for only about 10 days and he's already on lesson 16 (sometimes we can do 2 lessons because he wants to do more and he loves that he can read words now). He can read words like seem, me, read, eat, sit, sat, etc. I do recommend waiting till you know he's ready. Riley was 5 and Ethan was 4 1/2. I also have MANY early readers on levels 1, 2, and 3. I found most of these at Mr. K's. I loved BOB books when I was teaching Riley to read.
I try to do as many hands on activities that I can with both of them. Sometimes we use trio blocks or legos to do math. I also have Riley spell his spelling words with letter tiles.
I love this site. I will search the subject that we are searching and then click free and usually something will come up. I have found so many useful things from this site and I don't think I've ever paid for anything. Of course, I also use pinterest.
